A multi-faceted painter
Hélène Bécu stands out for the diversity of her artistic expressions. From an early age, she won a national drawing competition, an early sign of her exceptional path in the world of art.
Hélène's career has been marked by prestigious exhibitions, notably at the GMAC and the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, as well as significant awards such as medals from the Académie d'Arts Sciences Lettres and the Institut Européens des Arts Contemporains. She was one of the founders of the Vagabond'Art association.
Akoun quotation
Hélène has an Akoun quotation, a reference system established in 1985 by Jean-Armand Akoun, which has become essential for assessing the value of works of art on the market. This guide lists the quotations and bids of numerous artists, enabling each painter to be situated according to an average quotation for a work of standard format. Hélène's paintings are signed LNBQ + an identifier.
Studio in Algajola, near the sea
With a studio open all year round in the seaside village of Algajola, Hélène Bécu embodies a commitment to art and a willingness to share her passion with the public and other artists, making her a remarkable figure in the contemporary art world. She awaits you in her studio, located close to the fortifications of the village famous for its Castle and Bastion.
Abstract art inspired by island colours
Abstract art gives free rein to the imagination, without ever reproducing. Hélène's inspiration comes from the highlights of her life, her walks in nature, the Corsican landscapes through the seasons, the contrast of light that allows her to touch on all colours, from the blue of the sea to warmer colours, as well as certain experiences such as Aïkido. Hélène uses simple materials to give movement and relief to her work, reflecting her desire to freely explore and express her emotions and thoughts through art.
Paintings on aluminium
The result is a series of paintings that leave you free to interpret them as you wish. Hélène likes to listen to visitors' perceptions of her work, which can sometimes converge, and sometimes give way to a very personal view of the mind.
Oil on canvas
Knife painting
A particular technique used by the painter is knife painting, or oil painting done with a knife. More difficult to work with than acrylics, this technique allows Hélène to create movement and energy by mixing several shades of colour. The artist uses other painting techniques, sometimes using mixed media. Her career has enabled her to work in a wide range of techniques, with the exception of watercolour.
Works of art in relief
There are many works that play on relief, often using nearby materials such as fishing nets or sand from the Algajola beach just below. This maritime flavour is complemented by eye shells from St Lucia and red coral.
Paintings on canvas or aluminium plate
These two main media that you'll find at the ToileFilante studio each have their own particularity.
- Canvas stretchers, both flexible and light to transport, used by many painters.
- Aluminium, a much more atypical medium, which adds a touch of brilliance to hard colours.
- Other supports such as wood, marble or stone
Format and shapes
Hélène works in rectangular or square shapes, particularly for painting on aluminium. She explores other shapes on canvas, with triangles, but also triangular diptychs or triptychs.
Her works range in size from 20x20 cm for the smallest to over a metre square for the largest.
