Hike to Punta Sant' Eliseo from Vero
Forest and summit at 1270 metres - Panoramic view
Punta Sant'Eliseo offers spectacular scenery, including sweeping panoramic views over the Gravona valley to the east and the Cruzzini valley to the west, as well as numerous peaks, the Gulf of Ajaccio and the Gulf of Sagone.
The starting point is the Col de Tartavellu, at an altitude of over 800 metres. This pass has a small parking area. The route passes through a magnificent pine forest, as well as arbutus trees and a short section of maquis at the start. The final stretch is on a rocky mountain ridge. On reaching the summit, you are on the southern, lower part of the same mountain range as Monte d'Oro in Vizzavona, visible on a clear day from Punta Sant'Eliseo.
Level of difficulty
The hike goes smoothly through the forest, with one rocky section to be skirted to the right to avoid a potentially dangerous head-on climb because of the gap to the left. This section should be avoided by less experienced hikers.
The climb is gradual, with two or three steeper but brief ascents. The return journey follows the same route as the outward journey. All in all, it takes around 3 hours to cover almost 7 km.
Wild goats
Following a mountain ridge, there are no watercourses along the way, but you may have an unexpected encounter with wild goats, adding an extra touch of originality to this walk.
